9 Day Special Tour in Denali Area /Alaska

Overwhelming Wilderness, a real dogsledding experience, combined with cozy and  comfortable lodging, all this has come to an ideal symbiosis here. Meeting nice and hospitable people, they will give you a warm welcome. And you will make friends with our pack of sled dogs, your fourlegged comrades for  the oncoming days. Joining our sleddog trips in the white nowhere, seeing many mountains, lakes and rivers - of course under guidance of our  experienced musher guides only- all this is  a real alaskan adventure you will never forget.

Only 1 or 2 days in the beginning, getting used with your dogteam and can start for a few days into the big silence of winter alaskan bush.

Transfer from Anchorage 

 

 9 Day Dogsledding Denali Tour 

1. Day, Saturday

Arrival in Anchorage. Transfer to the Millennium Hotel, which is located close to the Airport in downtown Anchorage.

2. Day, Sunday

Transfer to Glennallen. Enjoy a scenic trip through the western part of the Wrangell St Elias Mountains. After the arrival in Paxson, you will move into your cabin and enjoy a lunch and than it is time to meet your Canine friends. After an introduction you will hook up a small team of 3 to 4 dogs for a first practice run along our Gulkana River Trails. Overnight in comfortable cabin. ( L, D )

3. Day, Monday

After a hearty breakfast and another in depth introduction we hook up the dogs again to start for a longer day trip. The dogs pull us along Paxson Lake to the Meiers Lake Roadhouse which is nestled along the shores of remote Meiers Lake. Here we stop for lunch, before returning to Paxson via the Alyeska pipeline trail. Overnight in comfortable cabin ( B, L, D )

4. Day, Tuesday

 Today we go deeper into the Alaska wilderness. We load up our sleds with all necessary gear for the next few days and head out via the spectacular Denali Highway. The Denali Highway is a 138 mile long gravel road connecting Paxson with Cantwell during the summer month. During the winter the highway is not plowed and changes into one of the most scenic but also challenging sled dog trails in Alaska. We quickly climb above tree line and can enjoy unprecedented vistas of the Alaska Range to the north and the Copper River Basin to the south. Tonight we “ camp out “ in insulated and heated arctic oven tents. 2 people sleep per tent.( B, L, D )

5. Day, Wednesday

After a hearty mushers breakfast we continue our journey along the Denali Highway. We enter into a high alpine area peaking at the Mc Laren Summit at over 4000 feet of elevation . A 6 mile down hill run brings us to the Mc Laren River. On its shores sits the Mc Laren Dodge which is only accessible by dog team and snowmobile for 7 month of the year.

Susie and Alan Echols take great pride in their Alaskan hospitality with home  cooked meals and a oozy lounge with stunning views of the Mc Laren glacier. Overnight in the Mushers Cabin. ( B,L,D )

6. Day, Thursday

Today we explore the Mc Laren valley around the lodge. The Mc Laren river takes us right up to the Mc Laren Glacier which has its origins deep in the Alaska Range. The return trip follows the 44 Mile Trail back to Mc Laren Lodge. Overnight in Mushers Cabin.

For guest who want to take a break from running dogs, it is also to spend the day relaxing at the Lodge ( B, L, D )

7.Day, Friday

It is time to start the return trip to Paxson. We return to the tent at Tangle Lakes  via 7 Mile Lake  and 30 Mile Summit . Many Moose and Caribou live in these valleys and with some luck we can watch these wild and beautiful animals in this pristine landscape. Overnight in heated arctic oven tents, 2 people sleep per tent ( B, L D )

8. Day Saturday

This is your last mushing day. Your team of loyal Alaskan Huskies will pull you back to Paxson. 4 hour return drive to Anchorage ( B, L, ) Overnight in Hotel in Anchorage

 

9. Day Sunday

Transfer to the Airport
